Hello Everyone, welcome to the personal website of
Jielai Zhang
OzGrav Postdoctoral Research Fellow, Swinburne University of Technology
Senior Fellow of the Schmidt Science Fellowship
I am a scientist who seeks to use novel imaging techniques to study the slowest and fastest changing things in the Universe: galaxies and explosions. I love playing with images to get as much information from them as we can- and this has taken me to study fetal brains using ultrasound too.
I was born in Shanghai, China and moved to Australia when I was 8. I attended many primary schools, moving every 2 years or less. I discovered my love of science at Sydney Girls High School, and studied undergraduate maths, physics and engineering at The University of Sydney.
Wanting to explore more of the world, I got a diploma of mechanical engineering from Imperial College London while I was on exchange. I completed my PhD, advised by Prof. Roberto Abraham and Prof. Peter Martin at the University of Toronto, Department of Astronomy and Astrophysics, where I was also a part of the Dunlap Institute for Astronomy and Astrophysics and the Canadian Institute for Theoretical Astrophysics.
